LSU's Flau'jae Johnson nears end of college career with Tigers after staying through NIL era

Flau'jae Johnson, a guard for the LSU Tigers women's basketball team, committed to the program on November 12, 2020, and enrolled in June 2021.[1][2] Entering the 2025-26 season, her fifth year of eligibility, she has remained with LSU without entering the transfer portal, defying trends in the Name, Image and Likeness era.

Johnson, a McDonald's All-American from Savannah, Georgia, buried her pet bearded dragon named "Four" — referencing her jersey number — on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, underscoring her personal ties to the school.[3]

Coach Kim Mulkey, who won a national championship with LSU in 2023 after three at Baylor, praised Johnson on senior night for being the first McDonald's All-American she signed at LSU and for staying four years to graduate.[4]

Johnson, also a recording artist signed to Roc Nation since May 2023, has partnered with the Unrivaled 3-on-3 league.[5][6] She balances basketball with music, brand deals and film study in her routine.

Teammate Izzy Besselman described Johnson's work ethic as motivational for the locker room.[7] Johnson has emphasized preferring to compete against top talent under a championship coach over easier scoring opportunities elsewhere.

Mulkey's program competes in the Southeastern Conference. LSU won the 2023 NCAA Division I women's basketball title.[1][2]
