Bucknor's bizarre out call reversed on replay in Brewers win
Umpire CB Bucknor called Milwaukee Brewers batter Jake Bauers out at first base on a routine play during Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Bucknor ruled that Bauers failed to touch the bag before a wide throw from second baseman Ben Williamson allowed a tag. Replay review quickly overturned the call, confirming Bauers had touched first.
The incident occurred in the bottom of the sixth inning at American Family Field in Milwaukee, with Bauers facing Rays pitcher Cole Sulser. Bauers lined out toward second, where Williamson knocked down the ball but airmailed his throw. Bucknor stood only feet away but missed the touch.
Bauers smiled on his return to first base, joined by Brewers manager Pat Murphy.
Rays manager Kevin Cash smirked at the miscue. Former Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain posted on X: "This is so bad you just have to laugh!! Something has to be done."
The Brewers won 6-2. Bauers went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a solo home run off Yoendrys Gomez in the eighth inning. Gary Sánchez hit a solo homer in the sixth. Milwaukee improved to 4-1; Tampa Bay fell to 2-3.
