Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm has filed a civil lawsuit against his parents, Daniel and Lisa Bohm, in a Philadelphia court, alleging they diverted funds from financial accounts they managed on his behalf to cover their personal expenses, according to reports from Fox News Digital and The Associated Press.[1][2]
The lawsuit claims the parents froze Bohm out of access to four accounts, which were used for purposes including securities investments and real estate purchases, and converted a sizable amount of his money to their own use. It also alleges misuse of funds from The Alec Bohm Foundation.[1][2]
Bohm's parents, through their attorney Robert Eckard, denied the allegations, stating they are "deeply saddened" and will vigorously defend themselves. Eckard said Bohm had full access to the accounts and that his parents have covered his expenses using their personal credit cards.[1][2]
The suit, one of the accounts for which was opened in 2019, seeks at least $3 million in damages, turnover of account control, and an independent accountant to audit transfers.[1][2]
Bohm, born August 3, 1996, in Omaha, Nebraska, was selected by the Phillies with the third overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft out of Wichita State University. He recently agreed to a three-year, $25.5 million contract extension with Philadelphia that runs through the 2027 season.[3][4]
In the 2024 season, Bohm batted .280 with 15 home runs and 97 RBIs over 159 games, earning his first All-Star selection.[3][5]
Bohm declined to comment on the matter when approached by reporters.[1]
